Adam Greenberg is no stranger to the Valley. He's done his time living here and playing in several area bands with the likes of Jose Ayerve and Henning Ohlenbusch, to name a couple. Now Greenberg hangs his hat in the Big Apple and gigs under the moniker Senator.

A shoot-for-the-moon undertaking from the get-go, the recording sessions for the project's debut album Long Range Exchange have spanned three years and employed a well-credentialed bunch of instrumental contributors including Jason Hart (Rufus Wainwright), Michael Jones (Violent Femmes), Bill Dobrow (The Black Crowes, Sean Lennon), Catherine Popper (Ryan Adams), and even Valley ringer Ken Maiuri (Pedro the Lion, Mark Mulcahy band, The Mammals, etc.). Senator plays The Basement this week with Spanish for Hitchhiking. Since, according to the wall calendar, this gig falls on "National Boss Day," perhaps they will consider covering a Springsteen tune.

Oct. 16, 9 p.m., free, The Basement, 21 Center St., Northampton, (413) 387-6345 or (413) 586-8686.
