As much as I often argue that the moneyed in America are absolutely intentionally raising an ignorant population by gutting our public schools, I still don’t get the Tea Partiers’ screaming about the horrors of socialized medicine and the redistribution of wealth. Or well, I’m being a bit disingenuous about the not getting it part, but I’ll get to that.
But regardless of whether I get it, it’s ignorance beyond all ignorance. Watch the videos of these people (link above); these are not the Americans with the money. Many of them are on Medicaid or Medicaire or disability or VA benefits or even, God forbid, WELFARE, and yet, instead of railing against the factory or, say, the COAL MINE they work at, the injustices done to them as workers (ooh, there’s a SOCIALIST word), instead they’re furious at the government for ostensibly trying to take some of that money from the richest and give it to some of the poorest and middle, to them.
It just make no sense (and here’s where I was being a tad facetious up top there) UNLESS these people who want to “take [their] country back” are thinking that this BLACK president will be redistributing said wealth disproportionately to BLACK people and/or they think that they’re going to somehow become rich and are thus protecting their rights. Can they really believe the latter, with little education and no capital to start businesses with which to achieve the practically extinct American Dream? Then it must be the former.
Every night, some clown or another calls Alan Colmes whining that anyone who criticizes the president is accused of being a racist. Well, as much as I understand why Alan has to say that that’s just not so, I gotta believe that to a really really great extent, racists are PRECISELY what these people are.
Lastly, can someone tell me why I not only listen to Colmes (a mediocre talker at best) and the hateful scary scary people who call him, whenever I’m near a radio late at night, I pay money for the goddamn podcast?
