Every night, On Alan Colmes’ show (I’m kinda on an Alan tear lately), people call in and complain that anyone who criticizes the president is labelled a racist. Of course, then they usually go on to say how they’re tired of paying taxes so that “those people” can sit around and collect welfare and eat fried chicken.
Funny, but I’ve had a hard time finding any mainstream media that’s dared to call even the all-but-openly racist Tea Partiers racially motivated in any way. But over the weekend I managed to come up with a couple of people willing to state the obvious. As much as I’m not a big Ed Schultz fan – he seems to me a kind of Huey-Long-Rush-Limbaugh of the left – he’s recently been making just the points I was making the other day, among them that no one got out their guns and went to rallies claiming they were gonna take their country back when Bill Clinton was prez. Here’s Big Eddie touching on some of that, and here’s Clinton himself mentioning the fear of the change in America’s complexion that’s welling up in certain segments of the population.
