How about we put Hotel Attraction, designed by Antoni Gaudi, wonderfully strange sort-of Art Nouveau architect of Barcelona, at Ground Zero? That ought to please enough folks. It was in fact in contention as a replacement for the Twin Towers some years ago and, weirdly enough, originally designed (in 1908) for placement on that same site.

Maybe there’ll be a mosque or a “mosque” nearby or maybe not, but who could care with this awesome edifice in place?

I’m only just now getting around to noticing that one of the finest and most interesting film directors alive has a blog at the New York Times. Errol Morris not only got a man out of jail with Thin Blue Line, he made one of the most sublime creations ever put on film, Vernon, Florida, which has been providing one-liners among the crowd I run with for two decades now. And then there’s Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control, as fine an illustration of the editing art as I’ve seen.

Anyhow–he’s no slouch, and his blog is heady reading (like, for instance, this).
