Our wedding was a reflection of our personalities. We are a laid-back, fairly unsophisticated couple; we prefer the intimacy of small groups to the spectacle of the spotlight. We would have eloped but for fear of retribution at the hands of our families and friends. Instead, we adopted a minimalist approach—no wedding party, no DJ, no pomp, no circumstance. The ceremony itself was small and held in Stanley Park on a beautiful spring morning. Photos were taken by our guests; music came courtesy of an iPod and a borrowed speaker. Our limo was a white Dodge Caravan chauffeured by the bride’s father, the reception a backyard barbecue with burgers and dogs in lieu of filet mignon and homemade whoopie pies in lieu of wedding cake. The day struck the perfect chord with us and (we like to think) with our guests, providing enough wonderful memories to last a lifetime.
