With an eye on tonight’s forecast of—that’s right—yet more snow, the City Council’s Mayor’s Compensation Review Committee has rescheduled a public hearing scheduled for this evening until Feb. 17.
The committee is seeking residents’ input on a proposal to raise the salary of Springfield’s mayor—currently, it’s $95,000—which supporters say would broaden and deepen the field of potential candidates, and in particular would attract candidates from the private sector. Based on the public response so far, it looks like proponents of the plan have a tough sell on their hands.
Three more meetings on the matter are scheduled:
• Thursday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers in City Hall
• Thursday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Ray Sullivan Safety Complex, 1212 Carew Street
• Thursday, Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Frederick Harris School, 58 Hartford Terrace
And speaking of mayoral news, where’s that big candidate’s announcement we’ve all been expecting to come by the end of this month?
