We went to stay at my folks’ place up in New hampshire this weekend. They’ve kind of let the place go to seed.

At least they’re showing their patriotism.

A trip up to New Hampshire can sometimes be a bit trying for the indigent boarders. They are used to lots of friends. We too are used to not having to entertain them. For this reason we brought along an extra child. He’s a bit more expensive than a television, but can be stuck outside if he gets noisy.

The children did get noisy so we handed them a walkie talkie (we kept its partner) and kicked them out the door.

About an hour later I found them down by the creek playing “rock jump.”

As you can imagine they didn’t stay dry for long.

Once they got cold, they returned to the house to change and make boats.

Good thing I brought a few extra changes of clothing.

The image above shows a dam they constructed to raise the water. They undertook this project after my father suggested and abetted it. Little humans are just like the rest of us around nature: always looking for ways to control it.

In any case, it was good to see them in children’s natural habitat.
