Former Mayor Teddy Dimauro will be waked tomorrow evening, then buried on Wednesday after a funeral mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Dimauro, a lawyer who served as mayor from 1978 to 1984 (and, before that, as a School Committee member and city councilor) died last Friday at the age of 80. His obituary describes his love of his city and his commitment to public service and to his family.
I didn’t know Dimauro well—he was no longer in office by the time I started covering Springfield—but I had the pleasure of talking to him a few times for articles and found him to be a straight-talking gentlemen with the kinds of smarts it takes to thrive in Springfield politics. Plus, he was a pal of former Elections Secretary James “Deser” Sullivan, which is all the recommendation you need in my book.
