The gypsy brass rock music circus comes to town New Orleans-style this week, when the Dirty Bourbon River Show plays Northampton in support of the new album Accordion Anthology. The evening promises to be at least as much show as music concert, but the Dirty Bourbon boys would likely have it no other way. After all, what else would you expect from a group that spent six months as the house band for a burlesque show?
Since joining forces in 2008, the five multi-instrumentalists have recorded seven albums, two of which—Free Love and The Old-Timey AfroPop Jibberish Junction—they’ve given away while on tour.
Feel free to request any of their original songs, including “Spectacular and Magnificent Day,” “Crankshaft,” or “Wolfman.” But it is recommended you avoid calling out for the Big Easy’s most famous tune. In their video for “Jewish Girls Who Went To Art School Know All The Angles,” each member of the Dirty Bourbon River Band wears an alarmingly bright yellow shirt with black letters that reads: “I swear to fucking God if you ask me to play When The Saints Go Marching In I will fucking kill you.”
Apart from that possible issue, the show should go down as smoothly as a glass of bourbon.
