It’s a fine week for filmgoers. The visual feast that is Pan’s Labyrinth (pictured) comes to Amherst Cinema as part of the Translation series. Amherst College professor Ilan Stavans introduces the film, and the screening is followed by a 20-minute discussion. Guillermo del Toro’s 2006 film reveals the gothic fantasy world a young girl discovers, but that world contrasts with the drab reality of World War II-era Spain under the oppressive dictator Franco, for whom her cold-hearted father serves as a military officer.
