Vagina dialogue continues
One of the goals of art is to experience other points of view. We go to plays about ‘others’ to learn and empathize. How sad it would be to lose that by denying the depiction of different lives. More to love about Springfield
The Springfield Public Day Middle School has read your article, “Five Things to Love About Springfield” (Jan. 15-21, 2015). The eighth grade had a few problems with the choices you picked. We have made a list of different things we think that people should love about Springfield:
Springfield Armory,
Basketball Hall of Fame,
Springfield Boys and Girls Club,
Science Museum,
MassMutual Center,
and the YMCA of Greater Springfield.
As teenagers of Springfield we agreed that these places are some of the most memorable and exciting places to be.
The laws are different for police
We have two sets of laws here, one for cops, and one for the rest of us. Several years a ago some banshee was creating a disturbance at my front door because I had stopped her grandson from vandalizing my house. She was really yelling and creating a disturbance. Her family worked for the city and was on friendly terms with the local cops despite their history of being a problem. The magistrate found there was no cause for complaint.
Now we have a simple post on Facebook where there was no follow up action and the case ended up with community service (“Is That a Threat? Chicopee man posts Facebook reference to cop killings, finds himself at center of Internet dragnet” Jan. 15-21, 2015).
I suppose the bureaucrats in the court house will now whine that they and the police should have our respect.
Then we have the case of the East Windsor cop who said people should kill Charlie DiRosa. Chicopee police say it is East Windsor’s problem. I think even an average student in a normal high school would see that it was a direct encouragement to kill. The Internet was used, and the threat crossed state lines. I am not expecting any federal action against the former East Windsor cop. As I said, we have two laws, one for cops, and one for the rest of us.
