Though he calls Italy home, Francesco Clemente considers himself a “nomadic artist” who is inspired to create by the people and places he visits. In his installation for MASS MoCA, “Encampment,” Clemente recreates some of the places he’s been over the past three decades. But instead of attempting to design structures, huts, and banners that capture the look of his travels, he’s attempting to recreate what being there feels like.

Encampment, through Jan. 31, 87 Marshall St., North Adams, (413) 662-2111.
