He will rock you!
One Night of Queen, performed by Gary Mullen and The Works, will rock the house in a live concert that recreates the look, sound, pomp and showmanship of one of the greatest rock bands of all time. And if you’re worried the evening will be a little too close to karaoke night at Mingles for comfort, don’t be! Mullen and Co. have been touring as a tribute to Queen for more than a decade and have played shows across the nation as well as in the UK, Europe, South Africa, and New Zealand. Get pumped for fan favorites, “We Will Rock You,” “Fat Bottom Girls,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Are The Champions.” The show is Wednesday, April 6, at Symphony Hall in Springfield. Tickets are $33-43 at symphonyhall.com.
Maximum hip-hop
Local hip-hop artists will go toe-to-toe in a “battle of the sexes” Friday night at Maximum Capacity in Chicopee. On the bill are Malado Music musicians Taija New — a Springfield native — and Ru Williams of Hartford. Taija lays a smooth R&B voice over rhythms and lyrics that are punctuated by Spanish influences. Williams’ voice is like silk over rushing water — soft and dangerous. Check them out for the 21-plus show; tickets are $10 before, more at the door; show starts at 10 p.m.
High bandwidth jazz
Dudes with guitars and drums playing electric jazz fueled by their Western Mass roots and passion for multi-genre music fusion. Check out the Village Hill Trio at Mocha Maya’s Saturday at 8 p.m. If you can’t make it, the Trio is also playing April 7, 8 p.m., at Club 121 in the Eastworks Building, Easthampton.
You never know with Adam Ezra
Band members of the Adam Ezra Group never know what they’re going to play until they get on stage and, it’s not unusual to find them wielding trash can lids, accordions, banjos, spoons, 2x4s and other unexpected implements over the course of a set. And, when the feeling hits them, they’ve been known to take the occasional field trip off stage to sing unplugged with the audience. See the Adam Ezra Group at The Garage in Pittsfield, Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 before, $12 at the door.
