The images we consume these days aren’t static things — they scroll past at high speed as we flick through our social media feeds. We are so inundated with new photos, even in idle moments, that it’s easy to forget what a powerful pause button a camera shutter can be. Still images stop time in powerful ways, letting us linger on moments that were nearly lost forever. The annual curatorial fellowship at UMass — which allows select students to draw from the museum’s permanent collection to create fresh exhibits — brings evocative photography to the forefront this year, with works by Andy Warhol, Elliott Erwitt, David Goldblatt, Sandy Skoglund, and others. This year’s co-curators are M.F.A. Studio Arts candidate Procheta Olson and M.A. Art History candidate Gretchen Halverson.
