In Good Compagnie
Jacob’s Pillow’s 2016 festival line-up features 20 talented dance companies from around the world and across the U.S., but we’re most excited for the Valley debut of Compangie Hervé Koubi, a company of 12 . male dancers from Algeria and Burkina Faso. The group’s performance of What the Day Owes to the Night reels with gymnastic passion, from backflips to head spins to leaping, tumbling flights of physical fancy. The piece, created by French-Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi, features songs as varied as traditional Sufi music, Hamza El Din & the Kronos Quartet, and the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. Strap in for what The Washington Post recently called “a stunning fusion of acrobatics, gymnastics, b-boying, modern dance, and ballet.”
Compangie Herve Koubi: Aug. 3-7. $10-$69. Jacob’s Pillow Dance, 358 George Carter Road, Becket. (413) 243-9919, jacobspillow.org.
