Carrots enhance the eyesight. Spinach helps you grow big and strong. And cranberries … make you rock?
“It’s how I learned to play guitar back when I was 14,” explains the 33-year-old singer-songwriter Holly Miranda. “I was on a mission trip to Belarus and this girl brought a guitar and taught me ‘Linger’ and ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries. I had been playing piano since the age of 6, but it wasn’t until this experience that I really started enjoying playing music. I learned every song I could find the chords to online as soon as I got home.”
With three full-length original efforts under her belt, Miranda has revisited her crush on cover tunes with Party Trick, a six-track EP wherein she tackles the works of Morphine, Drake and Lhasa De Sela, to name a choice few.
“Doing covers is such a great way to learn how someone else constructs a song. It’s just what I do for fun.”
To get in on Miranda’s local EP release party for the new disc, head over to the Parlor Room on Masonic Street in Northampton this Sunday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for this 7 p.m. performance. Tix are $15 and available at signaturesoundspresents.com.
