This election cycle is stirring up strong feelings left and right, but most of us confine our rants to social media and the comments sections of YouTube channels we love to hate-watch. That’s why we were surprised to find some political graffiti on Route 5 in Northampton, just off exit 18 of I-91. The spray painted hashtags equate the progressive Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren with Benedict Arnold and Judas due to (we assume) her increased chumminess with establishment Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
We asked our Facebook audience whether they agree with this rogue citizen’s assessment. Here’s what people said:
Nancy Bryant: No true progressive could support $Hillary. Warren shows her true colors.
Agnes Kearon: I would have liked her to endorse Bernie, but at least she waited until the primaries and caucuses were in (unlike all the other women senators). Politicians have to be clever in how and when they make alliances because they need favors from each other to pass future bills. If all the Berniacs would have worked harder and if Bernie said or did something different other than basically saying the same exact thing at every rally and debate, he might have won. Bernie did better than most expected and he should be proud. Smearing Elizabeth is something Trump would say. I don’t agree with it. I totally support Elizabeth in her decision, heck even Bernie has said he will vote for Hillary.
Josh Pelland: I think it’s great. Warren is loony. It drives people away.
Gina Gaetz: I think it is ridiculous. Hillary and Bernie … voted over 90 percent of the time together … Warren is supporting the democratic candidate that won the primary by all measures. Unless you want Trump to appoint the next three justices to SCOTUS … I suggest you vote for Hillar.
Stan McCoy: Both the left and the right have their share of radicals. They are so wrapped up in their self indulgent hyperbole that they have lost all sense of purpose or meaning. “Progressives” seem to be on the most unfortunate end of this spectrum; they know better but choose to embrace idiocy.
Matthew Taslitt: I don’t care one way or the other. I decided that I am not voting for another Clinton or Bush. Write-in it is!
