Dare to Compete
Brooklyn-based flex dance pioneer Reggie ‘Regg Roc’ Gray, the co-creator of the show FLEXN, performs at Jacob’s Pillow Dance for four days in August. But first, he has a dream. Gray hosts a D.R.E.A.M. RING (Dance Rules Everything Around Me) dance competition at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield this week that honors the culture of the street dance community, encouraging a roster of pre-registered dancers to “battle” with an emphasis on creativity, innovation, and storytelling. From 1 to 3 p.m., Gray, Jason Cust, and other flex artists teach a master class for dancers of all levels, ages 8 and up (observers welcome). From 6 to 6:30 p.m., the group leads an interactive conversation. After that: three hours of awesome dance battling.
Dream Ring Dance Competition: Friday July 22 from 1 to 9:30 p.m., free and open to the public. Berkshire Museum, 39 South St., Pittsfield. (413) 443-7171 ext. 360, berkshiremuseum.org
