Heart of Stone

We just spent 45 minutes aimlessly browsing WhereToFindRocks.com. We blame the website for Martin Zinn Expositions, which sent us there to learn more about how a whole lot of well-arranged molecules can make for some truly incredible feats of micro-geology. In other words: pretty rocks. The Eastern States Exposition hosts the annual trade show in partnership with Zinn, so for three days families, casual wanderers, fossil fans, and geode obsessives can check out vendors offering specimens, decorator pieces, gems, jewelry, beads, and enough rocks — sorry: minerals — to make Hank Schrader swoon.

East Coast Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show: Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $8; free for children under 12 with paid adult. Eastern States Exposition, 1305 Memorial Ave., West Springfield. (505) 867-0425, mzexpos.com/east-coast-show.
