Old-School Soul Revival
Roll over, James Brown — soul singer Charles Bradley is coming to sweep the hearts of the MoCA masses gathered outdoors in the museum’s courtyard on Saturday night. Bradley has been hard at it since the mid-60s, when he spent years hitchhiking, working odd jobs, and playing small shows across the country. These days, Jay-Z is sampling his songs. In other words, he’s been a few times around the coolest block in town. Bradley is 67 now, but as Pitchfork wrote about his 2013 album Victim of Love, he’s still “channeling the sound of 1970s greats like Al Green and Curtis Mayfield, and the sheer power of his voice is undiminished.”
Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires: Saturday at 8 p.m. $25-$33. MASS MoCA, 1040 MASS MoCA Way, North Adams. (413) 662-2111, massmoca.org.
