Since 2012, Michelle Kersbergen and Ian Modestow, the married owners of Black Birch Vineyards, have made it a wine-lovers destination close to home. Their vineyard has 12 acres of vines in the farm country of Hatfield and offers more than a dozen varieties of wines that include whites, reds, and a rosé wine. Black Birch Vineyards offers more than just wine tastings. There are educational events, wine-making classes, and a meet-the-artist series where people can see the work of local artists displayed at the vineyard. The Black Birch Vineyard focuses on the whole wine culture, rather than just the wine. Kersbergen says people appreciate that Black Birch is a part of the farming community. “It’s a unique experience in a nice, pristine location,” she says. And “our wines are really good.
