Georgia Right to Life issued a press release on February 17 which opens with this steadfast decree: "It is apparent from the recent birth of octuplets to a southern California woman, that the fertility industry needs governmental oversight." How that apparition materialized for GRTL escapes me, as they offer no further elucidation of their logic or of why the birth of octuplets means "fertility" (read: reproductive) oversight or why the actions of a woman in Southern California should dictate policy change in Georgia.
The press release outlines The Ethical Treatment of Human Embryos Act in the Georgia Senate introuced by Georgia State Sen. Ralph Hudgens. Hudgens is a Republican. As Slate points out, the senator, "says he believes in 'less government,' 'more personal responsibility,' and "greater individual freedoms,'" which is why he feels entitled to tell those silly little Peaches in Georgia what they can do with their lady parts and what they can and cannot put in or take out of them.
