In a USA in which people are coming to town-hall meetings where our president is speaking strapped with automatics – would-be assassins or lynch mobs, you pick; at which these same people draw Hitler moustaches on the president's picture, scream that god will judge the politicians for what they've done to them (ie TRIED TO GET THEM HEALTH CARE), and wail that they're going to take their country back (the tacit "from that Nigger" barely omitted), a country in which such ignorance and hatred has been fostered by utterly shameless people (and corporations, these days insurance and big pharma) who have eviscerated our public schools to create more and more ignorant racists who believe that we really do have the best health care in the world and Canada the worst because filthy rich people come from all over the world to see our doctors (which is okay because they're going to get filthy rich themselves on lottery tickets bought from disability checks – it's the American dream!), in this America of ours, I find myself on the edge of blind fury daily. And then I go home, and watch “Pete and Barb” in their half dozen dazzling episodes on xtranormal.com, watch them struggle with their love and their herky-jerky humanity, and I am bathed with a momentary calm. (The website’s a bit slow and tweaky, like the animation itself – be patient).
