It is with great sadness that the Northeast Underground reports the death of singer Whitney Houston, who passed away Saturday night at the age of 48. Though responsible for such hits as “How Will I Know,” “I Will Always Love You,” and an emotional performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV, Houston had battled drug and addiction problems for years before passing away at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on the evening before the Grammy Awards.

Despite the lack of an official cause of death at this time, the singer’s life is already being celebrated and remembered by such fellow musicians and fans as Alicia Keys, Tony Bennett, and Mary J. Blige.

At a gala held by Clive Davis only hours later and in the same hotel where Houston’s body was found, Sean “Diddy” Combs said, “Whitney Houston, simply put, had the greatest voice of the world. Hearing her sing was like listening to magic. We lost an angel, and anytime we think of Whitney, we have to remember the positivity she gave us, when she performed, she performed 5,000 percent. She wasn’t a hater, she was a congratulator.”

While the rest of this blog post was written before news of Houston’s death broke, the Underground hopes you enjoy the humorous content as a brief distraction from such a sad event.

Sometimes a music video comes along that alters your brain for life.

Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” – whether for good or for ill, after viewing said material one is never able to have the same viewpoint on life again. And today, in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s 203rd birthday, I present to you such a video starring none other than our country’s illustrious 16th president at his finest.

From the twisted minds of the alternative rockers in the band Electric Six, who also are responsible for this fellow 2003 gem off their debut album Fire, I give you the history-warping tale that is the song “Gay Bar.”

Watch Electric Six’s video for “Gay Bar” featuring the 16th president of the U.S. Abraham Lincoln here:

There. Good luck scrubbing that mental image out of your head. I know I’ve tried. Let’s just hope no similar videos leak out featuring candidates in the ongoing Republican debates.
