Sometimes it seems like all you hear about the Springfield schools is bad news: poor test scores, high drop-out rates, safety concerns.
So tomorrow’s fifth annual United in Hope celebration is a much-welcomed reminder of the good things going on in the city schools, and the good people who are part of that community. The free event, put together by school department employee Gianna Allentuck with the support of other Springfield agencies, including the city libraries, “honors teachers, support staff, parents, community advocates, and everyone who supports the 26,000 students enrolled in the Springfield Public Schools. We are united in hope for success for our students!” organizers say.
The event includes student performances, information about volunteering opportunities and community resources, and a talk by Patricia Spradley, who oversees parent and community engagement for the school system. Students, parents, teachers and community members who’ve made important contributions will receive Inspirer of Hope awards.
