• Saturday is the kick-off of a Spike Lee film series and discussion program-with free popcorn-at the Mason Square branch library.
Films will be screened at noon on three consecutive Saturdays (Feb. 8, 15 and 22) in the library’s community room. On the final day, the film will be followed by a discussion led by Christopher Tinson, a professor of African American studies at Hampshire College.

And a word to the wise: organizers note that the Spike Lee joints are rated R, so adults and older teens only, please.
• On Sunday, the Forest Park Civic Association holds its annual meeting, including the election of new board members and a potluck dinner.
The meeting takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. at newly rehabbed Forest Park Middle School and features guest speaker Medina Ali, the school’s principal. Residents interested in joining the civic association are invited to attend.
In an announcement of the event, Tom Walsh, the association’s vice president, called the meeting “an excellent opportunity for neighborhood residents to come together and become updated on neighborhood activities,” adding that it “spotlights the best thing our neighborhood has to offer: the great people who live in Forest Park.”
