While the battle over a city trash-collection system rages on in City Hall, Keep Springfield Beautiful—the non-profit with the rather pleasing slogan “the go-to guys to get clean & go green”—has a couple of events coming up where residents can take clean-up efforts into their own hands.
This Saturday, April 23, residents can dispose, free of charge, of old electronics and appliances, as well as clean plastics and metals, and get free flower seeds in the bargain. The service is open to Springfield residents only; bring a valid ID or utility bill to show you qualify. Collection will take place at Green Monster Recycling, at 54 Turnbull St., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The following Saturday, April 30, Keep Springfield Beautiful will host a city-wide clean-up day, part of the national Great American Cleanup. Volunteers will spread out throughout the city to pick up trash, remove graffiti, plant flowers and otherwise do their part to make the city as beautiful as it deserves to be. Sign up at KSB’s website, where you’ll also find information about the organization’s 10K road race, on Sunday, May 15, at the Basketball Hall of Fame.
