I missed being born in Oklahoma by, give or take, a mile. Thank heavens. Because what would I do now that the turbaned jihadis are a heartbeat from imposing Sharia law on the fair hills of OK?
It may seem fairly absurd that Oklahomans have passed a law banning judges from considering Sharia and other international law, but I’m sure most judges in OK are even now secreting themselves in their chambers with copies of the Koran.
There are multiple paths to annoyance with this sky-is-falling silliness, though it’s been temporarily halted by a federal judge (thus giving the jihadis open season–ye gods). What’s really horrific is that this is a stout echo of the conditions that existed in the American colonies pre-U.S. Constitution. If you were Baptist (as many, many Oklahomans are now), and in the wrong colony, you could be beaten or imprisoned for your religion. It was part of the law to discriminate. Just like this law. That’s why Article 6 of the Constitution says you can’t have a religious test in order to hold office.
When people are ignorant of their own history, stupid things happen. Like this.
