Some bad news: The methods we've used to search for life (or at least organic material) on Mars may in fact destroy any evidence of it. Talk about a major downer–all those dudes in short sleeve dress shirts are probably removing their Buddy Holly glasses to dab the tears as we speak.
Some terrifying news: New memory technology may enable the keeping of information for as long as a billion years. So 500 or 600 million years into the future, some post-human being made of light and energy may well fashion a crude interface with which to study the entirety of our online existences, wondering at all the vitriolic stupidity we were steeped in. But, he/she/it can tell him/her/itself, they were just barely past crawling from the mud. Small comfort. I'm not convinced we should employ this particular technology. Better to think it will all dissipate someday, if you ask me.
