Higher Ground
Not everyone has the capacity for prolonged reflection — I recall ditching Siddhartha halfway through middle school to focus more of my efforts on GoldenEye for Nintendo 64 — but with practice comes … if not perfection, at least a clearer, calmer focus on what makes the world tick. Local artist Juliet Seaver buckled down recently and set her painterly sights on one subject: the Buddha. She painted one Buddha a day for a year, and now 22 of those images are on exhibit at the Salmon Falls Gallery in Shelburne Falls. Stop by and absorb some of Seaver’s vivid lines and colors. And before you hurry down the hill to stroll along the Deerfield River, sit and pause for a few minutes, and let the world come to you.
