Into the Woods
Follow the rising moon into the Hilltown forests and you may not end up at grandmother’s house. A bigger surprise awaits in the Williamsburg woods this July: the annual Market of the Moons Renaissance Faire, which blurs the line, as the organizers put it, “between the mundane and magical worlds … between our realm and the realm of the fairies.”
Lords and ladies are cordially invited to attend the wicked and wonderful weekend festivities: real live kings, queens, knights, and mythical creatures, thrilling battles, spirited song and dance from live performers like the Ladies of Integrity, Aristocracy, Repute, and Society (pictured here), and vendors from all over selling books, handcrafts, costuming, and more at the fairy market. It’s family-friendly fun all day on the grounds of the reservation, beginning at 10 a.m., but under cover of night, be prepared for the carousing to turn a bit bawdy. What’s the point of letting your flag fly among like-minded revelers if you can’t let your hair down, too?
Market of the Moons Renaissance Faire: Saturday and Sunday July 23-24. $5-$10, children five and under free. Chesterfield Scout Reservation, 22 Sugar Hill Road, Williamsburg. marketofthemoons.com.
