Staind frontman Aaron Lewis checked in recently to promote his upcoming benefit at Look Park Aug. 14. The interview that transpired will appear in full in a future installment of this column, but in the meantime, a quick Tivo alert for his fans: catch Aaron with arrows, guns and the rest of his arsenal as he attempts to out-hunt pro baseball pitcher Adam Wainwright, wrestler J.W. Hart and ultimate fighter Tim Sylvia each week on Dream Season Celebrity—a reality hunting show currently airing on The Outdoor Channel. (Check local listings for specific times.)
Speaking of Lewises… philanthropic funnyman Jerry Lewis has been spending less and less time in front of the cameras at the weekend-long Muscular Dystrophy Telethon he has hosted for more than half a century.
While it’s equal parts sad and understandable (after all, he is 84) to see the iconic comedian on the sidelines, it has apparently opened the door to more performances than ever, including, perhaps… your band?
That’s right: from now through July 26, iheartradio.com is accepting submissions for “Get Discovered”—a nationwide contest that boasts a grand prize of a live performance date at the 2010 MDA Telethon in Las Vegas as well as all related transportation, lodging and dining fees.
To enter your musical masterpiece in the sonic struggle, kindly point your browser to www.iheartradio.com/new2/contests/mda/index.html for more information and directions for uploading submissions.

Closer to home, The Rendezvous (rendezvoustfma.com) in Turners Falls has rousted an impressive, eclectic array of performers including “Banjo Queen” Diane Sanabria, veteran Celtic singer/six-stringer Ronald Meck and fledgling pop rockers Ghost Box to help raise funds—and awareness—for the local Brickhouse Community Resource Center (BCRC).
“In addition to our general mission of supporting community through economic development and youth leadership, Brickhouse hosts a teen center and started PowerTown Music—a project which educates young people in the music industry,” BCRC’s Peter Hamelin notes. “So not only are we appreciative of the Rendezvous helping us raise funds for our cause, but we are also using the event to get PowerTown involved with booking and promotion—so it really is a win-win for us.”
A $5 donation is suggested.

Last up, veteran area musician Dave LaValley reports that he has put the finishing touches on a compilation CD that features turns by Mark Nomad, the Susan Angeletti Band, Sweet Daddy Cool Breeze and his own The Disciples, to name a choice few.
It’s an accomplishment that he is looking to celebrate with all involved on Saturday, Aug. 14 at Palmer’s Crossroads for an official release party/all-star blues jam aimed at raising some greenbacks for a cause near to his heart.
“The disc and the concert will both support the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias, a condition which my son has,” he explains.
Tickets for LaValley’s gala are $20 (children 12 and under are free with a paid adult admission) and include dinner and a chance to win door prizes. For more information, email him at loudrock6@netscape.net.
