Long distance relationships can be tough, but the band White Problems is making it work. Guitarist Kevin Gebo and bassist Andy Farr reside in the Valley, while drummer Dan Barker and vocalist Matt Spent—talk about a cool name for a rock singer!—live in Boston. Gebo and Farr load up their axes and carpool eastward at least once a week to write tunes and rock out.

The band, formed just last summer, has already cycled through two lead singers. Spent recently joined their ranks to help steady the ship. White Problems plays chunky indie rock, with a propulsive rhythm section and distorted guitar that can be alternately angular and chiming. You can hear elements of their cited major influences (like The Wipers, Superchunk and Dinosaur Jr.) shine through in their recordings.

The quartet is set to release a seven-inch single this summer on Long Island's Chronic Death records, and has gigs lined up in Boston and Albany. Plans are in the works for a full-length album and mini-tour to follow soon after. Check myspace.com/whiteproblems for songs and show listings.
