Springfield's Symphony Hall is a standing reminder of the enduring ideals of American culture. Erected in 1912, a little after the height of the Greek Revival style, the building's facade includes Corinthian pillars, a customary triangular pediment, and ornate cornices. These elements bestow on the hall a monumental quality that has to do with more than just its scale.

Since March of 1944, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra has taken the stage at Symphony Hall, first under the direction of conductor Alexander Leslie. Now conducted by maestro Kevin Rhodes (pictured), whose resum? and repertoire attest to his international experience, the SSO kicks of its 65th season with an opening night gala. Rhodes has chosen the music of prominent American composer George Gershwin, and is joined by special guest pianist Norman Krieger, USC professor and artistic director of the Prince Albert Music Festival. They perform Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F.
