Steve Earle is an intriguing guy—he's a Southerner who lives in New York, a rocking folksinger, and even a former prison inmate. His music is raw and passionate, and covers everything from old-school country to contemporary anti-Bush anthems.

He may be rough around the edges, but Earle never fails to deliver heartfelt music of real depth and emotion. This week, he brings his fiery style to the Mahaiwe stage with his wife, Allison Moorer, opening.

Aug. 14, $33-38, 8 p.m., Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Great Barrington, (413) 528-0100.
