Used to playing demanding compositions by Steve Reich and John Cage, Brooklyn-based drumming quartet So Percussion is ready to perform a work they've been brewing all summer in a barn in southern Vermont. A far cry from the likes of Reich's simple "Clapping Music," their new site-specific work, Music for Trains, takes place on rail cars, flatbeds and depot platforms. Designed with help from the Vermont Performance Lab, the event transports the audience from Brattleboro to Bellows Falls on a clamorous journey where objects like old TVs, radios and bicycles are used as drums. Though So Percussion's arrangements are studies in rhythmic precision rather than persistent cacophony, their performances are irresistibly energetic and this one is sure to be delightfully playful.

August 8-9, 5:20 p.m., Brattleboro and Bellows Falls, $12-40, (802) 258-3992, www.musicfortrains.com.
