Instead of having multiple categories, the goal for GBS 2015 is to crown one winner.
Popularity is the only yardstick for this year’s GBS, and any and every kind of music is welcome, with one caveat designed for a creative Valley: no covers.
The contest aims to discover the best original or improvisational Valley musicians. The Advocate started taking nominations in June, but now we’re on to the first round of voting. Our audience will select THE best band in the Valley on Sept. 12 at One Bar & Grill in Northampton.

Information and Contest Rules
This is a 21+ event. Everyone, whether attending or in the bands, must be 21 years or older.
Bands must be local.
All songs must be original. No cover songs or songs by other artists will be allowed.
If your band is chosen as a finalist:
All bands agree to have their name, voice, and/or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material related to the Grand Band Slam without compensation or rights to royalties for such use.
All bands must submit an audio clip, a music video, and a photo. Your band must be available to participate in the live Grand Band Slam on September 12 at One Bar and Grill. All bands must play live; bands may not use pre-recorded material.
Sound systems will be provided by One Bar and Grill, bands only need to bring their own instruments — but band members are responsible for the security of their equipment. Backline provided. Email Matt at One Bar and Grill with special specifications, firstname.lastname@example.org.
This is a popular vote contest – get your fans to nominate your band and vote for your band all the way through. Check out our Fan Toolkit for ideas. Rally your fanbase to vote for you and eventually get all of your fans to see you at the live event on September 12.
