We run out of ben gay again so i had to go to the hardware today to buy one of those heated things you put on the edge of your roof to melt the ice that has got all built up there. It is like a heated chain you plug in and it melts the ice. i figgered i cld melt the ice w/ a hair dryer but i cld not find it and then i remembered jake had borrowed it some time ago when his hot glue gun stopped working and he changed the wiring in the hair dryer so it was more powerful and the first time dody went to use it her hair caught fire. just a little bit of fire, but it was enough to give the hairdryer back to jake. so we do not now have a hair dryer to melt the ice, even tho the hair dryer we DID have wld have worked just perfect after jakes tinkering w/ it, but we were not thinking abt ice dams when we gave the hair dryer back to jake, and that is a shame indeed and something worth remembering for next time.
anyway, i hope the heated chain works good b/c we have got probly a foot of ice on the roof and its only getting worse and we have got terrible black iceicles from where water has backed up and got inside the house and then run out again and froze the way iceicles do. boy do i wish jake did not use so much ben gay at the polar bear dip!
Ever since we run out of Ben Gay I have been monitoring those ice dams (which are more like ice glaciers) and putting ice up there to melt them but then dody told me to stop putting so much salt up there b/c we have a birdfeeder up there and the salt is making the birds sick. She says she seen 3 chickadees throwing up, which is a sad sight indeed. so i spose she is right and w/o the heated thing i wld have to hit those ice dams w/ an axe and i have learned the hard way that it is a bad idea to hit your roof w/ an axe but that is a story for a nother day.
