Eng Tay, a native of Malaysia and now a resident of New York City, has traveled far and wide in his 60 years, gathering inspiration for his works. Tay’s work includes paintings, etchings and sculptures, through which he seems to be trying to express an intimacy that is only present in the most unexpected of moments. Much of his work is “familial,” that is, centered around a family or family-like structure, and often includes things like games and musical instruments to convey a certain vibe of togetherness.

Comrade-in-art Hideaki Miyamura also shows his own vision in an exhibition of fine art ceramics. Texturing his works to resemble glass, polished metal or other non-ceramic materials, Miyamura also dabbles in iridescent and crystalline glazes, including his own widely recognized contribution to the art, the Yohen Crystalline glaze. Mostly drawing his influence from the tradition of his native Japan, Miyamura says that his goal is to create sculptured vessels that evoke a feeling of inner peace and serenity. Take that, Prozac!
