Pop Rock Pirouettes

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet has become an audience favorite at the Berkshires dance destination Jacob’s Pillow. As The Boston Globe puts it: “The dancers … seem as comfortable in acrobatic turns and loose limbed falls as they are in soaring grand jetés and crisp fouettés.” But don’t decline this invitation just because you’re a ballet newbie or a closet francophobe — you may not know “fifth en haut” from a hole in the ground, but this vibrant company still stands to mesmerize you with its routines set to contemporary folk, rock, and electronic music. En avant to Becket, where the troupe kicks off the season with an East Coast premiere by Spanish choreographer Cayetano Soto, as well as Alejandro Cerrudo’s poetic work Silent Ghost.

 Aspen Santa Fe Ballet: June 22 to 26. 8 p.m. with weekend matinees at 2 p.m. $45-$75. Jacob’s Pillow Dance, 358 George Carter Road, Becket. (413) 243-9919. jacobspillow.org.
