Something to hate about the mall
Comments on “Five Things to Love About the Mall”
Barb Brown: The majority of puppy store puppies come from puppy mills where the dogs are over bred, kept in small, over-crowded conditions and many of the puppies have severe deformities and health issues. Many of the mothers are bred to death and many of the puppies often end up euthanized or in shelters because of health issues. Puppy mills care very little about the quality of the animal they are selling and are only looking for a quick buck. The comment in the article about getting a puppy at the mall only encourages this inhumane treatment as more people shop and don’t adopt.
Cyndi McMahon: Say what???? Advocating the purchase of a puppy!!!!! When there are so many in shelters! When so many of us are working tirelessly to get those places closed or at least be adoption sites for rescues!!!! Unbelievable, shocked coming from an Advocate writer as I thought them to be more socially enlightened!!!!
Facebook debates the Electoral College
Facebook comments made on our post sharing a link to “Bad, Electoral College, bad! An Advocate chat” about the merits of keeping the voting system in place.
Agnes Kearon: dump it! It was designed by rich white slave-owners & such. We need 1 person = 1 vote so all individuals have their say!
Sarah Mancini: It’s only bad when those don’t agree with the results …
James Todd: Best solution: Require the winner to carry BOTH popular vote AND the Electoral College. If there is no winner, we can repeat the election a week later. If there is still no winner, see the 12th Amendment.
Joseph H White: Hmmm … Peaceful secession? All those chilly new england states (excluding NH of course) so close to Canada — our biggest trading partner, progressive social values, nice health care system and so much more! How many signatures to put this on the ballot? Impossible? That’s what we said about Trump.
Keith Bishop: no it has not come to that, please read Alexander Hamilton’s essay #68 summary or in full and you will have a better understanding of why the college is important.
Robert Meroski: You can’t compare the electoral college to slavery. Slavery still exists in the world (i.e. human trafficking and most jobs) but comparing the two institutions is apples to oranges.
Bobby Calsetta: The reality is that the electoral college works exactly as designed. The majority of states chose Trump. Popular vote would allow only major cities to control the election. Hillary won the popular vote only because of liberal California which Trump ignored to win the electoral college. Hilliary got beat because she sat home with a message that changed with the wind and didn’t run a campaign in the less populous areas.
Aaron Hibbert: You might actually see voter participation increase if people thought their votes mattered. I’m for ranked choice anyway. The two party system is what got us into this nonsense in the first place.
James Todd: It’s possible under the current system to win the presidency with about 37 million votes (or about 26 percent of the popular vote) if a candidate wins a plurality in these 13 states: California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. It’s highly unlikely, but possible. You could have a candidate who wins the Electoral College even though 37 states and Washington D.C. didn’t want them … And 74 percent of the population voted for someone else.
Jonathan M Widelo: Nope! The silent majority has spoken! Let’s make America great again!
Patrick Davis: Time to stop crying over spilt milk, accept the outcome, come together with our neighbors, and be better Americans than we have in well over a year. I’m in. … It’s not going to change! We have to be the change we want to see in others. We have to be better citizens, friends and Americans.
