Our illustrious stage connoisseur Chris Rohmann, has recommended a pick of the day, Guys and Dolls at the Majestic Theater in West Springfield. I like all the help I can get, so take it away, Chris:

Guys and Dolls, the “musical fable of Broadway,” is playing now at the Majestic Theater. The clockwork plot turns on a pair of bets and takes us from Times Square street corners to a chintzy burlesque house, a Salvation Army mission, and a Havana that was still, in the ’50s, the norteamericanos’ playground.

“The large, likeable cast, directed by Rand Foerster, is headed by Billy Clark Taylor as the suave gambler Sky Masterson, Rebecca Flinker as prim missionary Sarah Brown, Buzz Roddy as twitchy crap-game impresario Nathan Detroit, and Annie Kerins as adenoidal showgirl Adelaide.

“Mitch Chakour leads a tight nine-piece band, Dawn McKay’s costumes nail the postwar era’s gaudy fashions, and Greg Trochlil’s brick-walled set evokes the Great White Way’s back alleys, where “the oldest established permanent floating crap game” is played.”

The show is running Wednesday, May 23, through Sunday, May 27. Majestic Theater, West Springfield. 413-747-7797, www.majestictheater.com.
