For millenia, the wonders of the natural world have inspired creative people, from Aristotle to Thoreau and Georgia O’Keefe. Plants, flowers and other quiet but ubiquitous proliferations of life grace the palettes of painter/printmaker/photographer Betsy Feick and photographer/scanographer Marty Klein in an upcoming exhibition at the Forbes Library’s Hosmer Gallery. Titled The Mirrored Universe, Feick’s work attempts to “use the camera like a drawing tool,” squeezing expressiveness from a photographic image. Klein’s images, initially created by capturing objects with the aid of a flatbed scanner, are manipulated for hours upon hours in the artist’s “digital darkroom,” where he enhances colors and crisps up the detail of lines and shadows (“Some Fun Guys” is pictured).
