A Heartbeat (or Impeachment) Away from the Presidency: We went to VP Mike Pence’s hometown to learn about him
Jeff Brown, part of a deep-rooted local newspaper family, became Pence’s close friend in high school. Pence, a volunteer with the county’s Democratic Party, was still feeling out his political beliefs, Brown said. “Mike is a historian,” Brown said. “He was very interested in Kennedy and Roosevelt, just the decision-making process that these guys went through to do what they needed to do.”
